It has become known that
some companies are not only copying the design of the Razor mini-scooter, but some are
even going to the extent of using the Razor logo, and trying to make their cheap product
look as similar to the Razor as possible.
Some people have had major problems with their 'Razor', only to find
that they had bought one of these cheap rip-offs.
Before you buy a Razor please be
sure to check that you are buying the original mini-scooter. We sell only the genuine
original Razor Scooter. The cheap rip-offs are not only inferior quality, they are also
dangerous because of the cheap wheel design.
The following are ways in which
you can tell the difference between a genuine Razor, and a fake.
Real
Fake
The handlebar ends where they are inserted
into the headtube on the Razor are smooth and rounded, on the fakes they are rough and
flat.
The base of the head tube is cloudy on the
fake Razor's. (This is because of inferior or poor heat treatment after welding.)
The brake pedal on the genuine Razor is
forged, so the underside is smooth
The brake pedal on the fake Razor is
die-cast. The die-casting process of the fake Razor leaves a circle on the underside of
the brake pedal.
The Razor logo on the headtube
of a fake Razor can be scratched of easily with your fingernail. On the genuine Razor the
logo is less easy to scratch.
Hardware and materials are of
cheaper quality on the fake Razor. This may be hard to notice when you first buy it. It is
only after parts start rusting or breaking that this becomes apparent.
The substandard manufacturing
process of the fake Razor means that that the platform will bend if you jump on it. The
genuine Razor is much more rigid.
Last, but most importantly are
the wheels. A lot of time was spent researching the compound and manufacturing process of
the wheels. They could have made these cheaper, but they were worried that the cheap
material would wear too quickly or even strip when cornering at higher speeds.
The wheels on the fake Razor use a standard
cheap plastic that we believe is dangerous. The wheels on the fake Rake are slightly
cloudier than the Real Razor (see photograph above)
